Using Muay Thai Kickboxing For More Then Just Fitness

First I should toss this little bit of knowledge out there; yes Muay Thai Kickboxing is great for fitness and getting in shape but…it’s also the ultimate form of striking for self defense.

How do I know this you might ask? Cause I grew up in Philly and got into a lot of fights. Hence, I was training Muay Thai since I was 12, I got to use it…a lot. It worked then and it’ll work now.

If you combine the striking of Muay Thai with the grappling of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the takedowns of Wrestling then you my friend are on the way to mastering true MMA.

I wanted to write about this because some people forget that. They do it for fun and fitness, which is fine, but it’s a fighting style made for combat. So if the need comes up you can and should use it!

What makes Muay Thai so effective for the street? I think the use all limbs and the whole body, which include:

  • Punches
  • Knees
  • Kicks
  • Elbows

To be honest, I think the use of a simple round kick is more then enough to stop most people. People always think it’s gonna be a boxing match and then you kick them…boy does that change the game fast. It works better then good, trust me.

So, since this is such a nice Thursday afternoon and since The Dark Knight Rises is coming out tonight I thought I’d post some Muay Thai Kickboxing videos. Yes, they rule.

Watch, study, learn!
